Morocco’s AS FAR, the Royal Army football club, has officially filed a complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over crowd disorder during their CAF Champions League group match against Egypt’s Al Ahly at Cairo International Stadium.
The club’s statement on social media condemned what it described as “unsportsmanlike behaviour” by some Al Ahly supporters, including the throwing of water bottles toward the pitch, a gesture AS FAR said endangered the safety of its players and technical staff.
AS FAR formally urged CAF to enforce competition regulations to protect fair play and participant safety. The fixture finished 0-0, with both teams advancing to the quarter-finals of Africa’s premier club competition.
Al Ahly, a record 12-time CAF Champions League winner, topped the group on 10 points, one ahead of AS FAR; Tanzania’s Young Africans were third and Algeria’s JS Kabylie bottom.
