Moroccan Olympic and world champion Soufiane El Bakkali won the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase on Sunday at the 17th edition of the Mohammed VI International Athletics Meeting, the third stop of the 2026 Diamond League season.
El Bakkali crossed the finish line in 7 minutes, 57.25 seconds, securing his sixth career victory at the Rabat meeting and recording the fastest time in the event this season.
The Moroccan star, widely regarded as one of the greatest steeplechasers of his generation, added another home triumph to a résumé that includes back-to-back Olympic gold medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paris 2024 OlympicsGames.
El Bakkali is also a two-time world champion, having won gold at the World Athletics Championships Eugene 2022and the World Athletics Championships Budapest 2023. He captured the Diamond League title in 2022 and previously earned silver and bronze medals at the world championships in World Athletics Championships London 2017 and World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, respectively.
