Moroccan political parties are preparing lawyers and monitoring teams to challenge rival results after Wednesday’s parliamentary election, with some parties already collecting evidence of alleged campaign violations before voting begins.
Istiqlal has set up regional monitoring committees that include lawyers tracking possible violations, party National Council President Abdeljabbar Rachdi told Hespress. A central legal team is also advising candidates on what conduct could later support an electoral challenge.
Rachdi said the same teams are meant to keep Istiqlal candidates from committing violations themselves, while providing legal and technical support if candidates decide to contest a rival list’s result.
PPS political bureau member Abdessalam Seddiki said his party is also documenting possible violations through activists and dedicated committees, calling the practice a routine part of election monitoring.
Seddiki singled out violations on voting day and campaigning or mobilization after the legal campaign period ends as potential grounds for scrutiny.
Candidates have 30 days from the announcement of election results to challenge the election of members of Parliament before Morocco’s Constitutional Court under Organic Law 066.13.
The court can reject challenges for procedural failures or insufficient evidence, but it can also annul individual victories and order partial elections. Following the 2021 parliamentary vote, it overturned seats in constituencies including Meknes, Driouch and Guercif.
In the Guercif case, the court found an established violation serious enough to breach the principles of equality and equal opportunity between candidates.
