Morocco posted a 43% increase in international tourism revenue in 2024 compared to 2019, surpassing all other countries in Africa, according to a recent report from UN Tourism, the United Nations body that promotes responsible, sustainable, and universally accessible tourism.
Tourism brought in USD 10.5 billion to Morocco’s economy in 2023, a 28% jump from pre-pandemic levels. The country welcomed 17.4 million international visitors, a 35% rise from 2019. Morocco’s ability to attract more travelers stems from strategic investments, strong government support, and a stable economy, the report stated.
With its proximity to Europe, modern infrastructure, and deep cultural heritage, Morocco has positioned itself as a top global destination. The country features nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites, 11 national parks, and a well-developed transportation network, including 19 airports and 27 commercial ports.
Investment in Morocco’s tourism sector has also risen substantially. From 2014 to 2023, the country received USD 2.2 billion in tourism-related foreign direct investment (FDI). Greenfield investments alone accounted for USD 2.6 billion between 2015 and 2024. The government has made expanding tourism a priority, outlining a roadmap from 2023 to 2026 that focuses on boosting international and domestic travel.
The country’s overall economy is strong, averaging 2.5% annual growth over the past decade. Projections for 2025 and 2026 show even higher expected growth rates of 4.0% and 3.6%, respectively. Morocco continues to attract investors with its business-friendly environment, skilled workforce, and competitive costs.
