CNN has named Morocco’s iconic Ksar Aït Ben Haddou one of the 21 most beautiful castles in the world. Featured alongside Japan’s Himeji Castle and Germany’s Neuschwanstein, the ksar stands out as the only African site in the ranking, and one of just two from the Arab world.
In its June 10 feature, CNN praised the selected castles for their blend of military fortification and residential grandeur. Aït Ben Haddou, described as a massive earthen structure on the edge of the Sahara, earned recognition not only for its unique architecture but also its cinematic appeal, having hosted the filming of major productions such as Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and The Man Who Would Be King.
Built in the 17th century as a caravan stop between Marrakech and Sudan, it continues to welcome visitors through its traditional Berber guesthouses.
