Morocco’s Atlas Lions are set to clash with Brazil in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Futsal World Cup at the Bukhara Universal Sports Complex in Uzbekistan.
Ranked sixth in the world, Morocco pulled off a thrilling 4-3 victory against world number four Iran, showcasing their fierce competitive spirit.
Facing Brazil, the top-ranked team, poses a formidable challenge for the Atlas Lions, who have already shown their resilience throughout the tournament.
Brazil has demonstrated their dominance in the tournament with remarkable wins, including a staggering 10-0 defeat of Cuba and an 8-1 thrashing of Croatia.
Historically, Morocco has played Brazil five times, with one win, one draw, and three losses. Their last encounter in the World Cup quarter-finals resulted in a narrow 1-0 defeat, but the team is eager to change that narrative this time around.
Captain Soufiane El Mesrar expressed confidence, stating, "We will play to win and go to the semi-finals. Even though Brazil’s players had more downtime, we are prepared to take them on."
Morocco’s path to the quarter-finals has been marked by skill and resolve, with a notable 4-2 victory over Tajikistan that demonstrated their balanced attacking and defensive play.
A yellow card issued to Soufian Charraoui raises concerns, as a second could mean he misses the semifinals if the team advances.
The highly anticipated match is scheduled to kick off at 1:30 pm.
