Moroccan publishing house “Axions Communication” and Chinese publisher “People and Tangel Publishing House” signed an agreement on Thursday in Beijing for the Chinese translation of two books dedicated to Morocco’s intangible cultural heritage.
The agreement was signed at the China National Convention Center (CNCC) during the 31st edition of the Beijing International Book Fair (June 18–22) by Saâd Hossini, Director of Axions Communication, and Gong Xun, General Manager of People and Tangel Publishing House.
The two books are “Treasures of Morocco’s Intangible Cultural Heritage” and “Rabat, City of Lights”, both high-quality publications of 240 pages each.
The first book, co-directed by Fatima Ait Mhand and Saâd Hossini, showcases Moroccan elements inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, such as Jemaa el-Fna Square, the Tan-Tan Moussem, the Sefrou Cherry Festival, traditional practices related to the argan tree, and the art of the Gnaoua.
The second book, directed by Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah and Saâd Hossini, highlights the architectural and urban richness of Rabat through a night-time photographic approach that reflects the cultural development of the Kingdom’s capital.
The signing ceremony took place at the Moroccan pavilion set up for the fair, in the presence of His Majesty the King’s Ambassador to China, Abdelkader El Ansari, and the Secretary General of the Party of Progress and Socialism, Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah.
“It is a great honor for these two books to be published in a country with a population of 1.5 billion,” Hossini told MAP, praising the active involvement of the Moroccan Embassy in China in making the agreement possible.
The agreement also includes exploring ways to enhance collaboration between the two publishing houses, including through the Chinese translation of additional Moroccan works or future co-publications, he added.
The 31st edition of the Beijing International Book Fair brings together 1,700 publishers, authors, and cultural institutions from 80 countries, including Morocco, which is participating through a stand showcasing the publications of two Moroccan publishers: “Axions Communication” and “Bayt Al Hikma,” at the initiative of the Moroccan Embassy in China.
