Abu Dhabi traffic fines in 2026 are set by the federal fines schedule (Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017), applied under Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2024, which took effect on 29 March 2025. You can check and pay them on TAMM, the Abu Dhabi Police channels or the MOI UAE app, and paying through TAMM within 60 days cuts most fines by 35%.
After 60 days and up to one year, the discount drops to 25%. Serious violations do not qualify. Below: where to check, how to pay, how the discount and instalments work, and the official amounts and black points for the offences drivers get caught on most.
How to check Abu Dhabi traffic fines
There are three official places to look. All three show fines issued in Abu Dhabi, and the MOI service also covers fines issued in the other emirates.
- TAMM (Abu Dhabi Government). The Traffic Fines Payment service is run by Abu Dhabi Police. You sign in with UAE PASS, and you need your Emirates ID. TAMM states there is no added cost for the service.
- Abu Dhabi Police e-Services. Registered users can view their traffic profile and the fines on it. The public section also has a “Fines’ Materials Inquiry” tool that lists the official value and black points for each violation code.
- Ministry of Interior (MOI UAE app and moi.gov.ae). The MOI Traffic Fines Payment service finds fines by traffic code (traffic file number), vehicle plate or driving licence. You sign in with UAE PASS.
The UAE Government portal lists the same official channels for checking and paying fines: the Ministry of Interior, the MOI UAE app, Abu Dhabi Police, Dubai Police, RTA Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah eGovernment.
How to pay Abu Dhabi traffic fines
You can pay online on TAMM, through the Abu Dhabi Police app and website, or at customer happiness counters, according to Abu Dhabi Police officers quoted by Gulf News in October 2025.
The MOI service accepts credit cards and digital wallets (Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay). It also runs on the MOI app and at service centres.
Two conditions catch people out:
- A fine with black points needs those points transferred to a driving licence before it is settled. MOI lists this as a condition.
- A fine that carries vehicle impoundment needs the impound served, or the impound period paid for. TAMM’s “Payment of Vehicle Impound Period” service requires all traffic fines to be paid first.
The Abu Dhabi early payment discount
Abu Dhabi Police run a two-step discount on traffic fines:
| When you pay | Discount |
|---|---|
| Within 60 days of the violation date | 35% |
| After 60 days, up to one year from issue | 25% |
Serious (“high-risk”) violations are excluded. We could not find an official list of which offences count as serious.
The discount only shows up on TAMM. Emarat Al Youm reported in September 2025 that it does not appear in bank apps, exchange house apps or the MOI app. If you want the reduced amount, pay on TAMM.
Paying in instalments
Abu Dhabi Police allow fines to be split into instalments over one year with no interest. The service works through five partner banks:
- First Abu Dhabi Bank
- Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank
- Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank
- Emirates Islamic Bank
- Mashreq Al Islami
You need a credit card from one of these banks. The police notice says to contact the bank within two weeks of making the payment to convert it. Gulf News confirmed the same five banks in October 2025.
Common traffic fines in Abu Dhabi
These amounts come from the traffic violations list published by the Ministry of Interior and Abu Dhabi Police (Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017). The UAE Government portal links this list as the current schedule under the 2024 traffic decree-law. Impound periods are for light vehicles.

Abu Dhabi Mobility removed the 120 km/h minimum speed on Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Road (E311) on 14 April 2025, so that road no longer has a minimum speed. Its 140 km/h maximum still applies. The AED 400 fine only applies on roads that still set a minimum speed.
Driving under the influence, or causing death or serious injury, is decided by a court, not the fixed schedule. Each of these adds 23 black points.
If you want the official amount for any other offence, the Abu Dhabi Police “Fines’ Materials Inquiry” tool lists every violation code with its fine and points.

Black points and impounded cars
When a driver reaches 24 black points, the licence has to be handed over to Abu Dhabi Police. TAMM runs this as a free service. Not handing it over is a fine of its own: AED 1000 the first time, AED 2000 the second and AED 3000 the third.
Our guide on how to remove black points from a UAE licence covers whether and how points can be reduced.
To collect an impounded car at the end of the impound period, the owner applies for a release certificate on TAMM. The fee is AED 100. For some serious offences, Abu Dhabi Law No. 5 of 2020 adds a much larger release fee: AED 50,000 after jumping a red light, along with a six-month licence suspension. The owner needs a driving licence, Emirates ID, passport and vehicle registration.
Darb tolls and Mawaqif parking are separate
Darb toll gate charges and their penalties are a separate system from police traffic fines. See our guide to Abu Dhabi toll gate timings and Darb gates.
Mawaqif parking fines are also a separate system. Our Mawaqif Abu Dhabi parking guide explains zones and fees.
Fines on a rental car
Traffic fines are linked to the vehicle’s plate. With a rental car, the fine is issued against the plate of the rental company’s vehicle. As general practice, the rental company receives the fine and then charges it to the renter, often with an admin fee set out in the rental agreement. Read the fines clause before you sign, and ask whether early payment discounts are passed on.
If you are comparing cars to hire in the capital, you can browse dealers on OneClickDrive’s rent a car Abu Dhabi page, a car marketplace where you contact dealers directly.
Questions people are asking
Can I get a certificate showing I have no Abu Dhabi traffic fines?
Yes. TAMM offers an “Issue a Traffic Fines Clearance Certificate” service, run by Abu Dhabi Police.
Do Abu Dhabi fines apply to cars registered in Dubai or another emirate?
Yes. The offence is fined where it happens, whichever emirate the car is registered in. The MOI Traffic Fines Payment service covers fines on vehicles and drivers across the UAE, and the UAE Government portal lists the same federal schedule as the one in force nationally. For Dubai specifics, see our RTA Dubai fines guide.
Can I get a list of my past fines for my records?
Yes. TAMM has a “Traffic Fines Statement” service and an “Issuing Financial Traffic Fines Receipts List” service, both run by Abu Dhabi Police.
Does paying a fine remove the black points?
No. Paying settles the money. The points stay on the licence, and MOI requires them to be transferred to a driving licence before a fine with points is paid.
