Iberdrola reaffirms its commitment to collaborating with leading Basque companies to modernise and strengthen the electricity grids, which are essential for driving electrification and developing energy storage.
In this instance, the company chaired by Ignacio Galán approved new contracts for Ingeteam and Ormazabal during the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, held in Bilbao on Tuesday, 8 September.
In the case of Ingeteam, the Iberdrola Group has approved a contract worth 25 million euros for work relating to battery-based energy storage systems, linked to renewable energy installations in Spain.
This is a key area, as it facilitates the integration of renewable energy into the electricity system and provides flexibility.
The second contract approved by the Iberdrola Board was awarded to Ormazabal, which has been commissioned to design, manufacture and supply two mobile substations intended to strengthen the operational capacity of the electricity grid.
The equipment manufactured by Ormazabal will improve the ability to respond to maintenance requirements, operational incidents or exceptional levels of demand.
The mobile substations will provide temporary support for Iberdrola’s grid operations and help maintain continuity of supply in a range of scenarios, within an increasingly demanding and dynamic environment.
In this case, the contract is worth almost five million euros.
Both Ingeteam and Ormazabal contribute their technological capabilities and expertise in key areas to drive forward electrification.
Iberdrola’s aim with these contracts is to modernise and strengthen the electricity grids and develop energy storage, which are key areas for achieving a self-sufficient, secure and competitive electricity system that is prepared to face the challenges posed by the drive towards electrification.
By promoting the involvement of Basque industrial suppliers in these major electricity projects, Iberdrola is consolidating a value chain capable of responding to the challenges of the future.
