The legal profession is currently facing numerous challenges, with the most significant being the need to embrace digital transformation and keep pace with the evolution and development of modern communication technologies, said Moroccan Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi on Thursday in Marrakech.
Speaking at the opening of the first session of the Standing Bureau of the Union of Arab Lawyers for 2024, held over two days, Ouahbi emphasized the central role of lawyers as “one of the pillars of justice and the rule of law, and as professionals committed to combating violations and consistently standing for truth, rights, and justice.”
In this context, he noted that the legal profession in the Arab world faces significant competition, underscoring the need to enhance the qualifications of Arab lawyers to rise to this challenge.
The minister highlighted that the continuous improvement of the legal profession requires qualification, communication, ongoing and specialized training, the exchange of expertise and experiences, and the adoption of technology and modern communication tools.
He stressed the importance of strengthening the central role and internal structure of bar associations, keeping up with international developments, and addressing challenges such as technological advancements and artificial intelligence.
Ouahbi also pointed out that the judiciary, with all its components, now plays a critical role in building democracy, noting that “the judicial body serves as a guarantor of stability, social security, and a cornerstone of economic growth and prosperity.”
