The Irish company Kerten Hospitality launched its first project in Morocco this week, closing a deal to build Cloud 7 Dersa Tetouan, a new lifestyle hotel situated within one of Tetouan’s most recognizable heritage buildings, according to Travel and Tourism News.
The signing took place in Casablanca and brings the global operator into a market that continues to draw new investment and rising visitor numbers.
The hotel will sit in the historic Dersa building in Tetouan’s Spanish-era district. Developers will keep the original façade and redesign the interior into a contemporary, design-driven space. The concept will draw inspiration from Tetouan’s Andalusian character and the craftsmanship associated with its partner, Oromecanica Group, a Moroccan jeweller renowned for its artisanal work and intricate details.
The location is minutes from the Martil–Tamuda Bay coastline and near several cultural sites, situating the development in a high-traffic tourism corridor.
Aziz El Hajouji, chairman of Oromecanica Group, said the company built its Rafinity Joaillerie brand on a culture of excellence. “The integration of hospitality expertise into our world follows the same ambition,” he said, “offering our clients an experience of welcome and refinement that resonates with the spirit of our creations. As the founder of the company, I champion this vision of elegance and high standards in every initiative we undertake.”
Kerten Hospitality’s leadership described the new project as an opportunity to expand a community-driven model into a city known for arts and heritage. “We are super excited to partner with Oromecanica Group and to bring Cloud 7 to Morocco,” said Marloes Knippenberg, CEO of Kerten Hospitality. She said the property will draw boutique travelers, digital creatives, weekend visitors and architecture enthusiasts.
Morocco’s tourism officials welcomed the announcement. Imad Barrakad, CEO of the Moroccan Agency for Tourism Development (SMIT), said the project reflects the country’s push to bring more operators into the lifestyle segment.
The hotel will include 63 rooms, family suites, a rooftop bar, a cigar lounge, a lobby café and several dining options, including Joontos, Kerten Hospitality’s award-winning restaurant. Company officials said strong government investment, better air connections, and rising global interest in Moroccan culture continue to drive new openings. Knippenberg said the country offers a significant opportunity for brands that want to grow in a competitive regional market.
