Minister of Higher Education, Azeddine Midaoui reported to the House of Advisors on Tuesday, that exams for medical and pharmaceutical students within the faculties were conducted under favorable conditions.
He said that efforts are now focused on implementing the settlement agreement signed between the Ministries of Higher Education and Health, with oversight from the Head of Government.
“The medical and pharmaceutical faculties have successfully passed the examination phase and have regained a sense of stability. Our goal now is to return to normal operations.”
The Minister also emphasized that work continues in collaboration with universities, medical faculties, and the network of deans to improve training conditions, with a focus on ongoing dialogue, discussion, and follow-up. He assured that “the issue has been resolved, and efforts are now being directed at enhancing the conditions for medical training.”
In the same session, the Moroccan Trade Union Federation group in the Council of Advisors raised concerns about various challenges facing medical education in Morocco, including budget constraints that impact the quality of infrastructure and equipment, as well as issues of accessibility for students with special needs.
Amine Hamdani, a member of the same group, highlighted the overwhelming volume of theoretical knowledge that affects students’ ability to effectively absorb information.
He called for government action to address these issues, including providing necessary funding for educational programs, increasing student scholarships, and improving equipment for training.
Minister Midaoui also noted that approximately 27,000 foreign students from 164 countries are studying in Morocco, with 85% of them coming from African nations.
Over the past four years, Mor occo has signed 33 agreements with international partners, including 10 African countries and 18 other countries.
In response to a question about Morocco’s academic engagement with the Euro-Mediterranean region, Midaoui emphasized that this is a cornerstone of Morocco’s foreign policy, aligned with royal directives on parallel diplomacy, academic diplomacy, and scientific diplomacy.
Mohamed Bakkouri, a parliamentary advisor from the National Rally of Independents (RNI), suggested creating research institutions linked to the African Union, expanding cooperation with Southeast Asian countries, and increasing the number of foreign students in Morocco by offering scholarships and engaging with Anglo-Saxon countries.
Addressing the issue of integrating graduates into the Moroccan job market, Midaoui stated that universities are performing well, with open-access institutions having an employment rate of around 70%. However, he noted that the evolving nature of professions, particularly with the rise of artificial intelligence, requires a reevaluation of job market integration strategies.
