Moroccan MP Naïma El Fathaoui from the PJD has submitted a written question to the Minister of Foreign Affairs regarding the case of Abderrahim, a 35-year-old Moroccan man killed by a Spanish municipal police officer on June 17 in Torrejón de Ardoz, near Madrid.

The incident, captured on video, sparked outrage among the Moroccan diaspora in Spain. 

Footage circulating online appears to show the officer using a controversial rear chokehold technique, while bystanders pleaded for him to stop, asserting the victim was unarmed and posed no threat.

Under public pressure, Spanish authorities opened an investigation, suspended the officer, seized his passport, and placed him under judicial supervision. However, the decision to keep the officer on provisional release has triggered anger among Moroccan communities and anti-racism groups.

El Fathaoui is demanding clarity on the legal and diplomatic steps taken by the Moroccan government and its embassy in Madrid, particularly regarding legal and moral support provided to the victim’s family. 

She also urged the ministry to outline measures to protect Moroccans abroad against racially motivated violence.
