Samskip, a leading European logistics company, has launched a new container shipping route connecting Morocco’s Agadir and Casablanca ports directly with the UK and the Netherlands, offering the fastest cold chain transit for fresh produce between North Africa and Europe, according to a press release issued by the company.
Its new Moroccan Reefer Service will provide weekly non-stop sailings and integrated door-to-door delivery, giving exporters of fruits and vegetables a reliable alternative to conventional trucking. With seamless customs clearance and inland distribution, the service is expected to ensure that goods reach key European markets in record time.
“This new connection marks a major milestone, not just for Samskip, but for the entire supply chain between Morocco and Northern Europe,” said Ólafur Orri Ólafsson, Chief Business Officer at Samskip. “We’ve listened to growers, importers, and retailers, and will deliver a service that’s faster, greener, and more reliable.”
To support the launch, Samskip signed a long-term agreement with the Moroccan Fruit Board, to make export channels for Morocco’s agriculture sector more robust.
The service is the only shortsea container route fast enough to transport Moroccan vegetables, perishable products that typically require shorter road delivery time frames.
The direct sailings will reach the south of the UK and Rotterdam, where Samskip’s transshipment and cross-docking operations facilitate fast further distribution across Europe, including Norway, Sweden, Finland, Poland, and the Baltic. Deliveries to Ireland can be completed within six days of departure from Agadir.
Using 45-foot reefer containers, the new service matches the capacity of standard road trailers while cutting CO₂ emissions by up to 80%. It is part of Samskip’s broader strategy to shift cargo off congested roads and onto sea and rail.
