Gas distributors in Morocco plan a two day halt in deliveries, saying rising transport and fuel costs are no longer covered by regulated margins.

Mohamed Benjelloun, head of the Moroccan Association of Liquefied Gas Depot Operators, said distributors could no longer sustain operations under current conditions despite repeated appeals to government authorities and a series of meetings that failed to produce what he described as satisfactory outcomes.

The planned halt follows what the association said were exhausted dialogue efforts, with operators citing sustained increases in diesel prices, maintenance expenses and wages, alongside the absence of a revision to regulated margins or targeted support measures.

Distributors said depots would remain open during the stoppage to allow households and businesses, including restaurants, to purchase gas cylinders directly depending on available stock.

Industry sources warned the move was intended as a signal over the sector’s financial viability, cautioning that prolonged disruption could affect supply continuity of a widely used household fuel.

The stoppage is expected to raise concern among service sectors reliant on butane gas, increasing pressure on authorities to respond.
