Morocco signed nine major agreements with top companies in the aerospace industry yesterday at the 2024 Marrakech Air Show. The deals are intended to expand aviation research, training, and manufacturing across the country.
The Moroccan government and Brazilian aerospace company Embraer signed the first agreement to launch projects in commercial aviation, defense, and urban air mobility.
A second major partnership involves American aerospace company Boeing and Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). Under the agreement, the two parties will collaborate to launch the Africa Center for Manufacturing Excellence (ACME). Based in Nouaceur, the center will focus on research on advanced manufacturing and next-generation materials.
In a third deal, CDG, a Moroccan public financial institution, and Sabena Aerospace, a French company, agreed to deepen their cooperation, strengthening ties in aerospace.
Meanwhile, French aerospace company Safran made a big commitment with three agreements to establish a new Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility near Casablanca Airport.
In collaboration with Royal Air Maroc and the Moroccan Aerospace and Space Industries Group (GIMAS), Safran plans to train 60 to 100 new technicians a year, starting in 2025.
Additional agreements included a land purchase by CDG’s subsidiary MedZ to support the MRO facility, as well as a real estate development agreement between Safran and Midparc for a workshop in Casablanca’s free trade zone.
