The University Mohammed VI Polytechnique (UM6P) hosted the second edition of the Digital Arts Festival (FAN) from Nov. 24 to 30, bringing together art, technology, and pedagogy across its Benguerir and Khouribga campuses and other prominent city venues.
Organized by CANCoop and initiated at UM6P’s 1337 School in 2024, FAN 2025 was held in collaboration with the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) and Open Mind Art & Culture (OMAC), with support from the French Institute of Morocco and technology partner EPSON. The festival coincided with the global “Digital November” initiative.
Under the theme “Art and Artificial Intelligence: Convergences and Ruptures,” the festival explored the interaction between humans and machines, examining how emerging technologies reshape artistic expression and perception. Visitors experienced interactive and immersive works, including augmented dance performances, sculptural installations, and experimental video pieces by artists from Morocco, France, Japan, Tunisia, and Spain. Some artists created works on-site through residency programs, engaging directly with Moroccan students.
The opening featured AI DREAM, a performance by French artist MOULLA and his Augmented Magic team, blending augmented magic with visual art, illusions, and movement. Other highlights included FOZEMACHINE by Fred Chemmama, transforming festival spaces into immersive visual environments, ARCHITECTURE LUMIÈRE by Zineb Sekkat, and COSMIC DRIFT and PULSE OF THE GAME by Moroccan students Ahmed Khilad and El Mehdi Alislami.
FAN 2025 showcased Morocco’s digital arts scene and its emerging talent. Students and young creators presented interactive installations, experimental videos, and augmented sculptures exploring technology, emotion, and identity. Works such as El Mehdi Alislami’s VR piece Millstones of Ibn Battuta and the immersive student project What is Identityillustrated the creativity and rigor of Morocco’s next-generation digital artists.
The festival also hosted discussions and roundtables addressing the societal and cultural impact of creative technologies. Topics included robotic art with Naoyuki Tanaka, site-specific public art with Reda Boudina and Zineb Sekkat, and philosophical and narrative aspects of AI with Yann Minh.
UM6P emphasizes research, innovation, and impact, positioning Africa at the heart of its academic model. The FAN aligns with this vision, making digital culture a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue.
The 1337 Coding School, a tuition-free, peer-to-peer programming school and member of the international 42 network, positions itself as a creative laboratory bridging art, logic, and technology. The IAS supports the festival through artist residencies, fostering high-level multidisciplinary research and artistic production.
OMAC promotes UM6P’s cultural, artistic, and educational initiatives, organizing exhibitions, workshops, and STEAM programs for students, while EPSON and the French Institute of Morocco contributed technological and institutional support, including training and interactive installations for young creators.
FAN 2025 highlights the fusion of creativity and technology, offering both Moroccan and international audiences a glimpse into the future of digital arts.
