With less than four months to go until the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025), Morocco is finalizing preparations for what is anticipated to be one of the most memorable in the tournament’s history.
Scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, the competition will showcase Morocco’s modernized football infrastructure.
For the second time in its history, after first hosting in 1988, Morocco will welcome Africa’s premier tournament across nine stadiums in six cities, from Tangier in the north to Agadir in the south.
The newly renovated Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat will serve as the centerpiece. Expanded to hold 68,000 spectators and redesigned with palm leaf-inspired architecture, it will stage the opening match, the final, and all of Morocco’s games. Upgrades include a hybrid pitch, a covered roof, giant screens, and world-class press and VIP facilities.
Nearby, three other capital venues will also host games: the Olympic Stadium (21,000 capacity), Moulay Hassan Stadium (22,000, now fully rebuilt and assigned to Algeria’s group matches), and the Post Office Stadium in Agdal (18,000 after ongoing renovations).
In Casablanca, the iconic Mohammed V Stadium, built in 1955, has been modernized with new LED lighting, upgraded media areas, and refurbished stands. Now seating 45,000 fans, it will stage high-profile group games, a round of 16 clash, and the third-place playoff.
The Grand Stadium of Tangier, Morocco’s largest, with 75,000 seats, has also been revamped. Its athletics track has been removed, and the stands are now fully roofed. The stadium will host group-stage matches as well as knockout ties up to the semifinals.
The Grand Stadium of Marrakech (41,000) will be another major venue, with improvements to security systems, dressing rooms, and VIP areas. It is set to host Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire in Group F alongside knockout matches.
In the south, Agadir’s Adrar Stadium (41,000), built in 2013, will stage Egypt’s group games as well as round of 16 and quarterfinal matches.
The Fes Sports Complex, seating 35,000, has been upgraded with a new pitch and stands. It will host Tunisia’s group fixtures and a knockout match.
Morocco’s preparations are part of the country’s efforts to cement its role as a continental and global football hub.
