Qatar ranks first in the MENA region for public transport access and stands among global leaders in sustainability, coverage, and user experience, according to the UITP 2025 report.
Qatar ranks first in the Middle East and North Africa for “Share of Populations with Convenient Access to Public Transport”, according to the International Association of Public Transport (UITP)’s MENA Transport Report 2025.
The report, which analysed transport systems in 40 cities across 14 MENA countries, found that 91.7 percent of Qatar’s population has convenient access to public transport, marking the highest in the region.
Doha also leads globally in public transport coverage, with 64 kilometres per million inhabitants, and ranks third worldwide in the number of public buses (969 per million) and fourth in metro cars (278 per million).
Qatar is listed among the top 20 countries globally for public transport user experience, alongside cities such as Amsterdam, Geneva, and Singapore.
It also ranks among the most efficient countries in terms of public transport fares based on Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), making the system affordable for all.
The report highlights Qatar’s strong performance in environmental sustainability, including its plan to fully electrify the public bus fleet by 2030.
Qatar is also recognised as a regional leader in smart transport infrastructure, with a fully integrated network enhanced by digital technologies and sustainable design.
Its multimodal system combines metro, bus, tram, and pedestrian networks, supported by smart trip-planning tools, electronic payments, and real-time tracking.
The 2025 report underscores Qatar’s commitment to developing public transport in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
