Morocco’s Ministry of Culture has announced that the 31st edition of the International Publishing and Book Fair will be held in the capital, Rabat, from April 30 to May 10, 2026.
The 10-day event will feature France as the guest of honor and will pay tribute to Ibn Battuta, the famed Moroccan traveler whose journeys spanned much of the known world in the 14th century.
In a statement, the fair’s organizers said the choice of Ibn Battuta reflects his belief that relations between people should be grounded in mutual understanding, dialogue and peace, regardless of geographical distance, cultural differences or linguistic diversity.
Organizers said the upcoming edition aims to further strengthen the fair’s growing international appeal, positioning Rabat — described as the “City of Lights” and Morocco’s cultural capital — as a global destination for publishers, writers, thinkers and artists from around the world.
They added that the fair has become a leading cultural event reflecting Morocco’s pluralistic identity, rooted in a long-standing heritage of coexistence, tolerance and openness.
According to the statement, the 31st edition seeks to build on recent cultural momentum by reinforcing the role of the book industry — in both production and circulation — as a driver of comprehensive development, in line with royal directives.
First launched in 1987, the International Publishing and Book Fair is Morocco’s largest literary event. Last year’s edition featured the Emirate of Sharjah as guest of honor. In previous years, the fair has hosted international organizations such as UNESCO, welcomed countries from sub-Saharan Africa, and honored prominent Moroccan cultural figures including Fatima Mernissi, Edmond Amran El Maleh and Driss Chraïbi.
