Moroccan rapper Jawad Assardi, professionally known as “Pause Flow,” was released from Sefrou city prison this evening, Thursday, after the Court of First Instance decided to release him pending trial upon payment of a 100,000 Moroccan Dirham (MAD) bail.
The rapper is being prosecuted due to the content featured in several of his song lyrics, in addition to statements and opinions he expressed during previous live interviews and broadcasts.
“Pause” was initially arrested mid-last week and appeared before the court on November 20, where he was ordered to be held in custody.
During a subsequent hearing today, the court reversed that decision, granting him conditional release.
The court has scheduled December 12 as the date for the trial of the popular rapper.
His arrest had sparked a wave of public debate regarding freedom of expression and its limits, especially concerning artistic content published on digital platforms and social media channels.
