Senegal’s Football Federation (FSF) filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Wednesday, challenging the decision that stripped the team of its original 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title and awarded a 3-0 victory to Morocco two months after the controversial final in Rabat.
The dispute stems from the January 18 final, when Senegal players walked off the pitch during the game in protest of a penalty awarded to Morocco before returning 14 minutes later to win 1-0. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) months later ruled the match forfeited, overturning the result and declaring Morocco champions.
In a statement confirming the appeal, CAS said: “The FSF appeal seeks to set aside the CAF decision and declare the FSF winners of AFCON. It also requests an immediate suspension of the time limit to submit an appeal brief until the CAF decision is communicated with full grounds.”
CAS added that it has registered the case and will appoint an arbitral panel to examine the matter, after which a procedural calendar will be established. The timeline is unclear, as Senegal has requested a suspension of deadlines pending full details of CAF’s ruling.
