A new museum dedicated to M. F. Husain has opened at Education City following an inauguration by Sheikha Moza.
Sheikha Moza bint Nasser inaugurated on Thursday Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum at Qatar Foundation’s Education City, unveiling a new cultural space dedicated to the late modernist Maqbool Fida Husain.
At the ceremony, she said Husain was “a legendary artist” whose work “transcend[s] borders and connect[s] cultures, histories, and identities”.
She said the museum fulfils the artist’s long-held ambition to see his work housed in a dedicated space in Qatar, describing it as a place that “showcases pages from his life and a collection of his works”.
Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, ministers, dignitaries and international art figures attended the event, which walked guests through key moments in Husain’s life and practice.
The evening ended with the unveiling of Husain’s original sketch for the museum, now realised by Qatar Foundation and architect Martand Khosla.
Opening to the public on Friday, the museum houses more than 150 original works and personal objects belonging to Husain, including paintings, films, tapestries and photographs. Several pieces are being shown for the first time.
The galleries explore his artistic development, his engagement with Arab civilisation and his Yemeni ancestry, and his interest in faith, philosophy and cultural identity.
Seeroo fi al ardh, Husain’s final major work unveiled in 2019, is now incorporated into the museum.
After the inauguration, guests toured the galleries before attending a dinner held within Seeroo fi al ardh.
The new museum is intended as a living artwork that reflects Husain’s drive for experimentation and his broad artistic vision.

It adds to Qatar Foundation’s wider public art programme, which includes more than 100 works across Education City.
The space includes a café, gift shop, library and Creativity Hub, and an auditorium for talks and events.
It will be open year-round from 10am to 5pm Saturday to Thursday and from 1.30pm to 7.30pm on Fridays, closing on Mondays and public holidays.
Photography without flash is permitted, and guided tours in Arabic and English are available, with audio tours planned for 2026.
