Irish mining company Talisman Metals has identified a new zone of surface copper mineralization at its Tirzzit Copper Project in Morocco, extending the known mineralized trend by about two kilometers ahead of a planned drilling campaign later this summer, the company said Thursday.
The London-listed exploration company said it discovered the new zone during geological mapping and prospecting as it prepared for its first drilling program at the project, located about 225 kilometers east of Agadir.
The company said it has completed channel sampling across the new outcrops to determine the width, grade, and orientation of the mineralized zones. Assay results are expected in the coming weeks and will help refine drilling targets.
Tirzzit is a sediment-hosted stratiform copper-silver project covering 16.5 square kilometers under two mining licenses.
Talisman agreed in February to acquire the project from a wholly owned subsidiary of Aya Silver & Gold, which remains a 4.7% shareholder in the company. The transfer of the Tirzzit mining licenses is still pending. Talisman is reviewing historical exploration data and geophysical surveys before drilling begins in the third quarter of 2026.
