WASHINGTON, May 5: The U.S. Department of State has announced a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the identification or location of Akram Abbas al-Kabi, the founder and leader of Harakat al-Nujaba, an Iran-aligned militia group operating in Iraq.
The announcement was made under the Rewards for Justice program, run by the Diplomatic Security Service, which targets individuals linked to attacks on US personnel and interests abroad.
According to US officials, Harakat al-Nujaba members have been involved in attacks on American diplomatic facilities in Iraq as well as US military bases in Iraq and Syria, resulting in the death of a US contractor and injuries to US service members.
Authorities said individuals with relevant information can submit tips through secure channels, including encrypted messaging platforms, and may be eligible for relocation in addition to the financial reward.
The move comes amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing efforts by Washington to counter armed groups it considers a threat to its personnel and allies in the Middle East.
