A new Republican congressman has joined a US House bill seeking sanctions against the Polisario Front, bringing the total number of cosponsors to seven, according to congressional records.
Representative Zachary Nunn of Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District joined the bill on February 24, 2026, just eleven days after Republican Pat Harrigan of North Carolina’s 10th District became a cosponsor on February 13.
The bill, first introduced in June 2025 and titled the Polisario Front Terrorist Designation Act, calls on the US administration to assess whether the Polisario Front can be classified as a foreign terrorist organization and subjected to sanctions under the US counterterrorism and human rights laws.
It was introduced by Representative Joe Wilson of South Carolina, with Jimmy Panetta of California joining as a Democratic cosponsor.
“The Polisario is a Marxist militia backed by Iran, Hezbollah and Russia providing Iran a strategic outpost in Africa and destabilizing the Kingdom of Morocco, a U.S. ally for 248 years,” the bill sponsor Wilson previously said in a X.
So far, the bill has seven cosponsors, including Representative Mario Diaz-Balart of Florida’s 26th District, who joined in September 2025, and Representatives Jefferson Shreve of Indiana’s 6th District, and Randy Fine of Florida’s 6th District, both joined in October.
Representative Lance Gooden of Texas’ 5th District signed on in December 2025, with Pat Harrigan and Zachary Nunn the latest to join in February 2026.
If passed, the legislation would require the US secretary of state and the treasury secretary to submit formal determinations to Congress on the Polisario Front’s leadership, foreign links, military activity, and alleged ties to armed groups and state sponsors designated by Washington.
