La Liga postponed Villarreal’s match against Espanyol, scheduled for Monday night, due to a red alert for heavy rainfall in Spain’s Castellon province, La Liga announced.
The decision followed security recommendations over DANA flood risks, Villareal said in a statement.
Officials called off the match after players had started warming up at Ceramic Stadium and some fans were already in the stands.
La Liga said the game will be rescheduled once conditions allow.
The weather alert affects Castellon in the Valencian Community and several other regions along Spain’s eastern coast.
In October, severe flooding in the Valencia region killed at least 217 people, including five Moroccans, and caused significant damage.
