KUWAIT CITY, Jan 11: The Indian Embassy in Kuwait marked World Hindi Diwas (Day) on Jan 10 with a vibrant celebration that showcased the beauty and cultural richness of the Hindi language. In his remarks on this auspicious occasion, the Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, HE Dr Adarsh Swaika, said Hindi Diwas is not just a celebration of a language but also a tribute to India’s diverse linguistic traditions and the unifying role that Hindi plays in connecting millions across the nation. It is an occasion, he said, to promote the language, encourage its use in various fields, and reflect on its historical importance in fostering a sense of national identity and pride.
The Ambassador added, on this day, let us embrace the beauty of Hindi, celebrate its profound influence on literature, culture, and art, and pledge to preserve its legacy for future generations. Principal of the New Gulf Indian School Anup Sharma, delivered an insightful and engaging address about the alphabets and unique features of the Hindi language. Highlighting its rich linguistic heritage, the Principal explained the structure of the Devanagari script, emphasizing its scientific design and phonetic accuracy. The audience was captivated by the discussion on how each letter represents not only a sound but also embodies cultural and historical significance. The Principal also spoke about Hindi’s unifying role in India’s diverse linguistic landscape calling it a symbol of “our shared heritage and a thread that binds millions of hearts,” the Principal remarked.
The talk inspired students and teachers and principals of schools who were present on the depth and beauty of Hindi, encouraging its use in daily communication and creative expression. The celebration of Hindi Diwas was not limited to speeches. Students participated enthusiastically in activities such as poetry recitations, and storytelling based on Hindi literature and grammar. Their performances captured the audience’s attention and conveyed the profound impact of Hindi in connecting communities and fostering unity. These events served to deepen their understanding of the language while fostering a sense of pride in their cultural roots. A Hindi song rendered by Kuwaiti singer Mubarak, who is well-known among the Indian community for his love of Indian music and culture received enthusiastic applause from the audience.
In addition to this, some Kuwaitis also participated in a competition which was organized by the embassy to celebrate the occasion. World Hindi Day, observed on Jan 10 each year, celebrates the global significance and widespread use of the Hindi language. Initiated in 2006 by the Government of India, the day marks the anniversary of the first World Hindi Conference held in Nagpur, India, in 1975. It aims to promote Hindi as an international language and foster a sense of pride among Hindi-speaking communities worldwide. On this day, embassies, cultural institutions, and academic organizations organize various events like seminars, cultural programs, and literary gatherings to promote Hindi’s rich heritage and its role in connecting people across nations.
World Hindi Day is not only about honoring the language but also about reinforcing efforts to ensure its continued relevance in a multilingual and digital age.
