Nezha Bidouane, president of Morocco’s Royal Federation of Sport for All (FRMSPT), was re-elected on Saturday to the board of the International Sport for All Federation (FISPT) for a second four-year term, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
The vote took place in Civitanova during the federation’s electoral congress held on January 24-25. Bidouane’s re-election comes as Bahraini official Issa Mohammed Abderrahim was also renewed as FISPT president for a new mandate.
A former elite athlete, Bidouane is a two-time world champion in the 400-meter hurdles, a bronze medalist at the Sydney Olympics, and a gold medalist at the 1998 World Cup in Johannesburg.
Speaking to the press after the vote, Bidouane said the support she received from partners across four continents reflects the importance of the FRMSPT’s work and the respect Morocco holds within international sports institutions.
The extraordinary general assembly and electoral congress brought together 101 members from 35 countries across four continents, who also approved relocating the FISPT headquarters to Rome. The federation was founded in 1982 in Strasbourg and has been based in Manama, Bahrain, since 2009.
