Morocco’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development said the country’s fuel supply is stable despite recent severe weather having disrupted operations at several ports, temporarily delaying the unloading of petroleum products, SNRT News reported.
In a statement, the ministry said public authorities and private operators have coordinated to maintain domestic supply, even as some fuel tankers remain offshore awaiting improved weather conditions to begin unloading.
The country’s national petroleum reserves are currently in excess of 617,000 tons, enough to cover domestic demand, while additional tankers carrying more than one million tons of fuel products are waiting to dock, according to official figures.
Authorities have also temporarily closed some fuel distribution stations in flood-affected areas as a precaution to prevent environmental and safety risks, the ministry said.
Officials described the overall supply situation as “stable,” crediting preventive measures and coordination with industry operators to maintain adequate reserves and fuel distribution across the country.
The ministry said it will continue to monitor fuel stocks and port operations daily in coordination with local authorities and sector stakeholders as severe weather affects parts of the country.
