Morocco’s airports handled more than 12.3 million passengers during the first four months of 2026, a 9.7% increase from the same period a year earlier, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF).
In its latest report, the DEPF said the growth was driven by a 9.5% rise in international passenger traffic and an 11.1% increase in domestic travel.
Passenger traffic during the first four months of 2026 grew across several key markets, including Europe (+9.6%), Africa (+19.6%), North and South America combined (+23.9%), and Maghreb countries (+13.7%).
Passenger traffic to the Middle East and the Far East declined 4.6%, including a sharp 37.5% drop in April alone, which the DEPF attributed to ongoing geopolitical disruptions in the region.
Air cargo traffic also recorded positive growth, rising by 11.8% as of the end of April 2026, compared with a 15.1% increase from the same period last year.
In the maritime sector, the total volume of commercial traffic handled by Morocco’s ports reached 63.3 million tonnes as of the end of March 2026, up 4.3% year-on-year.
The increase was mainly supported by a 10.7% rise in imports and a 4.3% increase in hydrocarbon bunkering activity. These gains were partially offset by declines in coastal shipping traffic (-30%) and exports (-1.9%).
Among major strategic cargo categories, Moroccan ports recorded higher volumes of cereals (+33.7%), imported hydrocarbons (+16.9%), phosphates and related products (+2.8%), coal (+17%), and new vehicles (+8.2%) during the first quarter of 2026.
Meanwhile, container traffic fell by 1.9%, while international road freight transportation declined by 5.8% to 147,535 units.
Passenger traffic through Moroccan ports totaled 718,720 travelers as of the end of March, a slight year-on-year decline of 0.8%.
