The new Mitsubishi Pajero is real, and as of today it is fully specified. Mitsubishi unveiled it in Tokyo on 2 September 2026: a 2.4-litre clean diesel producing 480 Nm, a newly developed eight-speed automatic, a three-row seven-seat cabin and the ladder frame from the Triton. The Middle East is named in the launch plan for the first time, from fiscal 2027 onward.
That last line is the one that matters most here, and it needs unpacking rather than repeating, because fiscal 2027 does not mean 2027.
We wrote about this car in August, when the only official document was a two-paragraph announcement and everything else in circulation was expectation. That post drew a line between the two. Today the line moves, so this is the other half of it: what Mitsubishi has now put its name to, and which of the pre-reveal reports held up.

Mitsubishi has not published a power figure, a kerb weight, a towing rating or a price in any market. It also has not announced an electrified version. The launch car is the diesel.

Three numbers that come with an asterisk
This is the part that gets lost when a spec sheet is copied from one site to the next, and it is worth knowing before you fix any of these figures in your head. Mitsubishi footnotes several of its own headline numbers.
480 Nm becomes 470 Nm on some versions. The release says so directly. Which versions, and in which markets, is not stated.
The height, ground clearance and all three off-road angles apply to vehicles on 20-inch tyres. So 230 mm of ground clearance and a 30.4 degree approach angle describe one particular configuration, not the model. A version on smaller wheels will not read the same on paper.
The 14.3-inch screens are 12.3-inch on some versions. Twin 14.3-inch displays have been the headline in most of the coverage. They are the upper specification.
Mitsubishi adds the usual line that specifications and features vary by trim and by market, which is not boilerplate in this case. Anyone who has bought a Japanese four-wheel drive in the Gulf knows that the GCC car and the Japanese domestic car can differ in ways that go well past the badge, which is the same reason GCC spec versus non-GCC spec is worth understanding before any of this becomes a purchase.
What August got right, and what it did not
Our August piece listed what was being reported but not confirmed. Here is how that list settled.

The pre-reveal reporting was mostly sound, which is usually the case. The two places it drifted are instructive though: it invented a second turbocharger, and it carried a hybrid that Mitsubishi has never mentioned in any of its four releases on this car.
What fiscal 2027 actually means for the UAE
Mitsubishi’s rollout, in its own words, is that the Pajero launches in Thailand first, then Japan and Australia during fiscal 2026, and that from fiscal 2027 onward it goes to approximately 100 countries including markets in ASEAN, Latin America and the Middle East.
The release also defines its terms, in a footnote most coverage skipped: fiscal 2026 runs from April 2026 to March 2027. Mitsubishi’s fiscal year starts in April, as Japanese company years do.
Work that through and the picture is more sober than the headlines suggest.
Thailand, Japan and Australia get it by March 2027. That is the fiscal 2026 window, and it is already underway.
The Middle East sits in the next wave, which opens in April 2027. Not January. And the phrase is “from fiscal 2027 onward”, not “in fiscal 2027”, which leaves the far end open. A hundred countries in phases is a multi-year exercise.
The UAE is not named. The Middle East is named as a region. Mitsubishi has sold here for decades through Al Habtoor Motors, its exclusive UAE distributor since 1983, so it would be strange for the UAE to be left out. But an unnamed country inside a regional grouping inside a phased hundred-country rollout is not a launch date, and nobody should plan around one yet.
So the honest answer to when you can buy a new Pajero in Dubai is: not before April 2027 on Mitsubishi’s own schedule, quite possibly later, and no price has been announced anywhere in the world.

Does any of this change the used Pajero decision?
Less than you might expect, and in one respect it makes the case for waiting weaker rather than stronger.
Before today, waiting meant waiting for a car whose specification was unknown. Now the specification is known and the timing is clearer, and the timing is the problem: the earliest realistic UAE window is more than a year and a half away, and first-year allocations of a returning flagship are rarely plentiful or discounted. That is a long time to defer a purchase.
What has genuinely changed is the shape of the car. A seven-seat, three-row body-on-frame diesel with a locking centre differential and low range puts the new Pajero squarely against the Land Cruiser and the Patrol rather than alongside the softer crossovers, which is where the fourth-generation car had drifted. If a used Pajero is still what you want, the advice from August stands unchanged, because the used market is unaffected by a car that is not here. Every Pajero on sale in the UAE is a 2021 model or older, desert use is common and not always disclosed, and a used car inspection earns its fee on this kind of vehicle. One more thing worth saying plainly, because it comes up every time a nameplate returns: a new generation does not reliably lift the value of the old one. It more often makes the outgoing car look dated to the average buyer.
