Morocco continues its ambitious overhaul of airport infrastructure with the recent appointment of two new directors at Nador El Aroui and Agadir Al Massira airports, according to a statement from the National Airports Office (ONDA) released on Friday.
Adel El Fakir, Director General of the National Airports Office (ONDA), made the appointments, naming Othmane Hassani as Director of Nador El Aroui and El Mokhtar Dahraoui as Director of Agadir Al Massira. Both directors bring extensive experience in air navigation and airport management to their new roles.
The new appointments are part of the government’s “Aéroports 2030” (Airports 2030) strategy, which is intended to modernize and enhance airports across the country to meet international standards and improve services for passengers and airlines.
The 2030 strategy outlines a comprehensive revamp of airport facilities, services, and management processes to boost Morocco’s international connectivity. With the country’s ambition to become a major hub for air traffic in Africa and globally, these changes are key to support the increasing demand for air travel.
Under their leadership, Hassani and Dahraoui will focus on modernizing their respective airports, enhancing passenger experience, and improving operational efficiency. This includes implementing innovative digital solutions, upgrading infrastructure, and optimizing airport services.
The move comes amid a significant rise in air traffic. Nador El Aroui witnessed a 3% increase in passenger numbers in 2024, reaching over 1.05 million travelers, marking a historic milestone as it surpassed one million passengers for the first time.
Meanwhile, Agadir Al Massira airport experienced even higher growth, transporting 3.1 million passengers in 2024, a 36% increase from the previous year.
To support this growth, the Agadir airport will soon begin an expansion project to modernize and enlarge the facility. This development aligns with the broader goals of the “Aéroports 2030” strategy and preparations for Morocco’s hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
