Morocco is preparing to introduce new regulations governing remote work as part of an upcoming overhaul of its labor code, expected in September or October, Minister of Economic Inclusion Younes Sekkouri announced Wednesday.
Speaking at a conference on the impact of artificial intelligence on employment, Sekkouri said the nature of work is undergoing “fundamental transformation,” and Morocco must adapt accordingly.
“AI should not be seen as a threat,” Sekkouri told attendees. “If used wisely, it can make work easier and help people build new skills.”
He noted that nearly 80% of existing jobs will require updates or transformations to align with technological advances. In response, the government is planning a range of support measures for both job seekers and employers.
Among the initiatives is the development of an AI-powered employment platform, which will feature digital coaching tools to assist young people in writing competitive résumés and understanding how job demands are evolving.
A complementary platform aimed at employers is also in the works, designed to offer a clearer view of the national skills landscape and improve hiring practices.
While academic degrees will continue to play a key role, Sekkouri emphasized the rising importance of hands-on experience and practical training. “We need to strike a balance between formal education and real-world skills,” he said.
He also called for the promotion of innovative startups and homegrown success stories, arguing that Morocco can generate meaningful value in the AI era through local entrepreneurship.
The conference, co-hosted by Al Akhawayn University and Groupe Le Matin, brought together business leaders, academics and policy experts to discuss the future of employment, youth empowerment, and digital transformation in the workplace.
