The European Investment Bank has approved €240 million in financing for Morocco’s National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), marking a decisive step toward modernizing the country’s critical infrastructure.
Of this, €170 million will support the reinforcement of the national electricity transmission network, enhancing reliability, reducing technical losses, and integrating renewable energy sources across Morocco.
The remaining €70 million will bolster water production capacities by improving facility efficiency and advancing ONEE’s digitalization strategy, thereby ensuring both quantity and quality improvements in drinking water supply.
These loans, backed by the EU’s EFSD+ guarantee, are part of ONEE’s ambitious €21 billion investment plan through 2030, designed to accelerate Morocco’s energy transition and secure its water resources.
As the country strives to meet its growing demands while addressing rural deficits and climate challenges, these investments stand to fundamentally reshape its sustainability landscape and economic resilience over the next decade.
