Swedish engineering group SKF has opened a new factory in Tangier, to produce components for magnetic bearings and high-speed electric motors. The facility, which initially employs around 60 people, will support the company’s expansion in the energy-efficient machinery market, according to PR News Wire.
The plant will manufacture modular, scalable products used in compressors, turbines, motors, HVAC systems, and semiconductors. SKF said the Tangier factory strengthens its global supply chain and helps meet rising demand for magnetic solutions.
Magnetic bearings use a controlled magnetic field to levitate motors without physical contact. This allows machines to operate at high speeds without friction and only minimal maintenance.
“By enhancing our supply chain, we can reduce lead times, improve customer delivery performance, and offer competitive solutions,” stated Thomas Fröst, President of Independent and Emerging Business at SKF. “This investment also supports our commitment to sustainability and innovation through decarbonization, electrification, and system intelligence,” he added.
SKF noted its magnetic solutions deliver greater energy efficiency and reliability than traditional technologies. Eliminating the need for lubrication reduces the carbon footprint of industrial machinery and supports sustainable energy development.
The company described the Tangier facility as a strategic addition that positions it as a key partner in the global sustainability transformation.
