The 16th International Conference on Public Finance concluded Saturday in Rabat after a two-day discussion reflecting on the challenges and prospects for restructuring Morocco’s public financial governance model, Morocco’s News Agency (MAP) reported.
The conference brought together experts, academics, and decision-makers to analyze weaknesses in the public financial management structure.
Discussion centered on overhauling the current budget framework by streamlining the flow and management of the public budget both regionally and nationally.
Morocco’s General Treasurer, Noureddine Bensouda, said this year’s conference underscored the “important role of Parliament in overseeing public finances, particularly regarding the state’s general budget.”
Bensouda noted the parliament’s ability to bypass collaboration between committees and act effectively, highlighting its crucial budgetary authorization in public finance management.
The treasurer called for a restructuring of the existing frameworks between central and local governments to ensure the effective execution of public policies at all levels.
