Delta Air Lines strengthens its operations in Australia and the South Pacific with a new destination starting in December 2025. According to its press release, the airline will operate from Los Angeles with Airbus A350-900 aircraft configured for 275 passengers in three seating classes (40 seats in Delta One, 40 seats in Delta Premium Select and 195 seats in Economy).

On December 3rd at 21:25 local time, Delta’s inaugural flight to Melbourne is scheduled to take off from Los Angeles LAX International Airport. This route will be operated three times weekly, offering 825 seats per week on each leg.

Melbourne will become Delta Air Lines’ third destination in Australia and the fifth on the continent, after Auckland, Brisbane, Papeete and Sydney. United Airlines is the leading U.S. carrier in the United States – Oceania market with six destinations, followed by Hawaiian with five routes, Delta with four connections (currently) and American with three regular destinations.

Delta Air Lines is the main company at Los Angeles International Airport, offering services to more than 60 connections, 40 of which are within the United States. New York (JFK), Boston (BOS), Seattle (SEA) and Atlanta (ATL), four of its major hubs, are among its most featured routes at LAX. The airline provides more than 150 peak-day departures.

Brisbane, Cancún, Guatemala City, Mazatlán, Mexico City, Papeete, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Puerto Vallarta, San José (Costa Rica), San José del Cabo, San Salvador, Sydney and Tokyo Haneda are its international destinations to/from Los Angeles.

Beginning in December, Delta Air Lines will offer almost four daily frequencies in this market.

“Delta’s new service to Melbourne reflects our commitment to connecting customers with the world’s most exciting destinations,” said Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta. “As the largest carrier at LAX, we’re proud to provide a premium experience, whether customers are exploring Melbourne or connecting through our Los Angeles hub to destinations around the globe.”

As per our database, the airline has 35 Airbus A350-900s in its fleet, which have three different seating configurations. Seven of them have 275 seats, which will operate the Los Angeles – Melbourne route, 19 have 306 seats and another nine are configured for 339 passengers.

A century

Delta is turning 100 years old in 2025, and to celebrate the anniversary, some of its aircraft will be painted with a special livery.

A new Airbus A350-900, soon to join Delta Air Lines, was recently spotted at Toulouse’s Blagnac airport, featuring a special 100-year livery. The aircraft, registered N527DN, has the MSN 720 and 275 seats in three classes, and Los Angeles – Melbourne will be one of the routes to be operated.

In addition, another airplane with Delta Air Lines’ 100th anniversary livery was spotted at the Airbus factory in Hamburg on February 5th, after its first engine runs and taxi test.

Both aircraft will join Delta in the near future.
