The El Jadida Court of First Instance sentenced streamer Ilyass El Maliki on Tuesday to 10 months in prison, following his conviction on multiple charges, including incitement, defamation, insult, and slander.
The court also imposed a fine of 20,000 dirhams after deliberating on the case in a previous session.
In his final statement before the court, El Maliki apologized for the content of his videos and said he had decided to withdraw permanently from social media platforms once the case concludes.
During the trial, the public prosecutor called for the blocking of all platforms on which El Maliki is active, arguing they had become spaces for defaming individuals. The defense, however, sought his acquittal, claiming the charges were time-barred and should therefore be dismissed.
El Maliki was arrested following complaints filed by several taxi drivers’ unions and civil organizations, who accused him of making offensive remarks against them.
