The Democratic Association of Moroccan Women (ADFM) has launched a new barometer to assess how political parties promote women’s representation and gender equality ahead of the country’s legislative elections.

The initiative will evaluate parties using a set of quantitative and qualitative indicators measuring their commitment to gender parity, women’s political participation and equal access to decision-making positions.

The assessment is based on five main pillars, including parties’ commitment to women’s political empowerment, candidate selection processes, financial and technical support for female candidates, the visibility of women in political campaigns and measures to prevent political violence against women.

The barometer will also examine whether parties nominate women in local parliamentary constituencies, apply transparent selection criteria, support female leadership and back legal reforms aimed at strengthening gender parity.

ADFM said it will publish a report ranking Morocco’s political parties based on their performance, with the aim of increasing accountability and encouraging greater women’s representation in politics.
