Morocco has imposed an additional duty on imports of coated fiberboards made from wood, according to a circular issued by the Customs and Indirect Tax Administration.
The circular states that a fixed additional duty of 1 dirham per kilogram will be applied for a period of three years on imports of fiberboards made from wood fibers or other compressed wood materials using resin or similar substances.
These boards are coated either with decorative paper containing melamine resin or with decorative panels or sheets made of plastic materials.
This measure comes in response to complaints submitted by Moroccan companies to the Ministry of Industry and Trade regarding the surge in imports of such materials. The Ministry responded by announcing the launch of an official investigation through a notice on its website.
The circular is based on Joint Decision No. 679, dated March 11, 2025, issued by the Minister of Industry and Trade and the Minister of Economy and Finance, concerning the implementation of a safeguard measure on imports of coated fiberboards.
