Morocco is accelerating a sweeping overhaul of its transport infrastructure, with the government planning to deploy more than 8 billion dirhams across 151 public contracts in 2026, as the kingdom races to meet the demands of co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup and sustain record-breaking growth in air and rail travel.
Transport and Logistics Minister Abdessamad Kayouh laid out the figures Tuesday at an industry briefing in Rabat, presenting a pipeline that spans high-speed rail, airport expansion, and logistics capacity , the three pillars of a network increasingly central to Morocco’s economic ambitions.
In 2025, the ministry launched 148 public contracts worth more than 36 billion dirhams, the bulk of it, 17.2 billion dirhams, directed at the high-speed rail line, known as LGV, which will eventually link Casablanca to Marrakech.
Rail carried 55.6 million passengers last year, including 5.6 million on the Al Boraq high-speed service, while freight volumes crossed 23 million tons, up 6% year-on-year.
Moroccan airports handled a record 36 million passengers in 2025, an 11% jump from the previous year, driven by surging international traffic. The ministry plans 12 airport construction projects worth 3.3 billion dirhams in 2026 alone.
Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, the country’s main hub and a critical gateway for the World Cup, will absorb roughly 1.5 billion dirhams of that total, funding a new runway, taxiways, and aircraft parking areas within a newly designated terminal zone.
The logistics sector, though smaller in headline terms, rounds out the picture. The Moroccan Agency for Logistics Development plans to sign 29 contracts worth 379 million dirhams in 2026, while the national logistics transport company adds another 19 contracts valued at 179 million dirhams.
Hosting a World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal in four years requires infrastructure that can absorb millions of visitors across multiple cities simultaneously, a test that rail, road, and airport networks will need to pass together.
