Moroccan and the Republic of Korea’s (ROK) officials are ramping up efforts to build economic ties ahead of the second Global Partners Conference, set for early December in Seoul, according to the ROK’s “Association of Association Executives.”
The Korea Asia-Pacific Business Association met recently with Chafik Hachadi, Morocco’s ambassador to the ROK, at the Moroccan Embassy in Yongsan-gu. The meeting focused on expanding cooperation between Asia-Pacific countries and African partners.
Ji Young-mo, Chair of the association, welcomed Morocco’s involvement and called for strong participation from the diplomatic corps and business leaders across the continent.
Ambassador Hachadi, who leads the group of African ambassadors in the ROK, backed the initiative. “Through continuous communication and cooperation, I hope to achieve practical collaboration and joint ventures not only between companies in both countries but also with African companies,” he said.
Morocco is positioning itself as a trade gateway linking Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. The ambassador pointed to major infrastructure projects such as the Tanger Med port and the Dakhla Atlantic Port as signs of Morocco’s growing role in global logistics. He also noted the country’s strength in renewable energy and critical minerals, including phosphate and cobalt.
The Korea Asia-Pacific Business Association has recently expanded its focus beyond China to the entire Asia-Pacific region. The first Global Partners Conference took place last October with representatives from six countries. The association aims to broaden participation in the upcoming event and build a platform for long-term economic cooperation.
Economic dialogue between Morocco and the ROK has gained momentum. Morocco’s Minister of Investment, Karim Zidane, attended the Japan-Korea Roadshow in February to promote sectors such as automotive, electronics, and shipbuilding. Both governments see the African Continental Free Trade Agreement as a tool to boost trade and investment.
ROK’s Minister of Trade, Inkyo Cheong, has also held talks with Moroccan officials to explore an Economic Partnership Agreement. Negotiators say the deal could improve trade flows and prepare businesses for opportunities tied to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
In another move, the Korea Importers Association signed a deal with Morocco’s Agency for Investment and Export Development. The agreement focuses on giving firms in the ROK to better access to Moroccan goods and simplifying trade procedures.
With the second Global Partners Conference at the end of the year, both countries are pushing for deeper ties that could shape future trade routes between Asia and Africa.
