Morocco international Azzedine Ounahi is officially back at Panathinaïkos. The Greek club has announced the return of the talented midfielder, this time on a permanent four-year contract.
The 26-year-old has joined Panathinaïkos from Spanish side Girona FC, putting pen to paper on a deal that will keep him in Athens for the next four seasons, the club confirmed on its official website.
A product of the prestigious Mohammed VI Football Academy, Ounahi already knows the club and its supporters well. He spent the 2024-2025 season at Panathinaïkos on loan, making 37 appearances, scoring five goals and providing seven assists.
His career has also taken him through RC Strasbourg, Angers and Olympique de Marseille, where he continued to establish himself as an important presence in midfield.
On the international stage, Ounahi has become a key figure for Morocco’s national team, the Atlas Lions. He has earned 55 caps and scored 11 goals for his country.
Ounahi was one of the standout figures in Morocco’s historic run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Atlas Lions became the first African national team to reach a World Cup semi-final, producing one of the greatest stories in the history of the competition.
His international journey reached another memorable chapter at the 2026 World Cup. Ounahi scored Morocco’s first two goals in their 3-0 victory over Canada in the round of 16, helping the Atlas Lions secure a place in the quarter-finals.
Now, with his return to Panathinaïkos secured for the long term, Ounahi will look to build on that momentum and write the next chapter of his career in Greece.
