France’s Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA) has launched an investigation into a “serious incident” after two Airbus A320 aircraft narrowly avoided collision at Nice airport on Sunday night, September 21, 2025.
According to the BEA, the incident occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. when a Nouvelair plane attempting to land came dangerously close to an EasyJet aircraft already on the runway. The incoming aircraft aborted its landing and performed a go-around maneuver to avoid impact.
Transport minister Philippe Tabarot, who has since resigned, described the episode on X as a “major incident” that nearly resulted in a collision between the two planes.
Investigators have been dispatched to the site. The BEA said flight recorders would be retrieved and crew and air traffic control testimonies collected to determine how the aircraft came to be on the same runway at the same time.
