Qatar wrapped up the 11th Arab Junior Athletics Championship in Tunis with nine medals, including golds for Mubarak Saeed and Abdulrazzaq Idris.
Qatar’s youth athletic team has concluded the 11th Arab Junior Athletic Championship on a high, winning four medals on the final day to take the overall tally to nine.
Mubarak Saeed and Abdulrazzaq Idris clinched gold medals in the 1500m and 400m hurdles, respectively, as Qatar finished with four gold, two silver and three bronze medals in the Tunisian capital.
Qatar’s previous golds had come from Younes Al-Baloushi’s first-place finish in pole vault and Saleh Mahmoud’s opening day win in shot put.
Runner Timo Jumaa added another medal to his tally with a bronze in the 200m race, following his silver-winning performance at the 100m event earlier in the tournament.
Abdullah Al-Abdullah had brought home Qatar’s second silver, finishing behind fellow countryman Al-Balushi on Tuesday.
Hussein Mohammed clinched Qatar’s third bronze in the 110m hurdle event, joining Jumaa and Mahmoud, the opening day hero, who also finished third in discus throw.
Mahmoud had achieved a personal best throw of 17.85m to claim Qatar’s first gold medal in the championship.
Qatar’s ten-athlete strong contingent in the tournament included Samer Hussein (1500m), Timo Jumaa (100m and 200m), Idris Abkar and Hussein Mohammed (110m hurdles), Abdulrazzaq Idris and Abkar Idris (400m hurdles), Mubarak Saeed (1500m), Abdullah Al Abdullah and Younes Al Baloushi (pole vault), and Saleh Mahmoud (shot put and discus).
The tournament brought together athletes from 15 Arab countries, including Qatar, Jordan, the UAE, Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Syria, Lebanon, Algeria, Sudan, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania, and Libya.
