U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States will seek to host another FIFA World Cup after praising the success of the 2026 tournament, which the U.S. co-hosted with Canada and Mexico, according to USA Today.
Speaking to Fox Sports before Sunday’s World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, Trump said he had already encouraged FIFA President Gianni Infantino to award the tournament to the United States again.
“I had a great idea for Gianni,” Trump said. “You have to do two countries. So announce us again next time, and announce another country after that. … Based on the numbers, we will be requesting it again immediately.”
Trump acknowledged that another World Cup would not take place in the United States during his current term, which ends in 2028. Morocco, Spain and Portugal will host the 2030 tournament, while Saudi Arabia will stage the 2034 edition, leaving 2038 as the next available World Cup for bidding.
Trump attended Sunday’s final at New York New Jersey Stadium, where he presented medals to Spain and the championship trophy after the match.
