Guinea’s Ambassador to Kuwait Mamady Traoré and Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Nayef Al-Mudhaf join dignitaries in cutting a cake to mark Guinea’s 67th Independence Day celebration in Kuwait.
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 4: Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Nayef Al-Mudhaf affirmed that Kuwait’s relations with the Republic of Guinea are “long-standing and historic.” Al-Mudhaf made the statement during the celebration of the Embassy of the Republic of Guinea of the 67th anniversary of the independence of Guinea at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, with a number of ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, and members of the consular corps in attendance.
He highlighted the role played by Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) in providing 14 loans to Conakry — estimated at KD64 million — to finance major infrastructure and road projects there. He revealed that trade with Guinea is acceptable compared to other African countries, indicating there are five agreements under negotiation between the two countries, including a labor agreement that is currently under discussion and it is expected to be finalized soon. On Kuwaiti contracts with African countries, he said Kuwait is in the process of negotiating with all countries that express a desire to sign labor agreements, stressing that Kuwait is keen on diversifying its labor sources. Considering it a strategic choice, he pointed out that Kuwait has had experience with Ethiopia, Benin and several other countries.
“Today, we have agreements with around 10 countries. Kuwait is a large market. We are ready to discuss such an agreement with any country that is willing to provide workers, ensuring the diversification of resources and the regulation of the labor market.” Meanwhile, Guinean Ambassador to Kuwait Mamady Traoré stressed that Oct 2, 1958 is a turning point in the history of the Guinean people, as the late President Ahmed Sékou Touré declared Guinea’s independence as the first French-speaking country in sub-Saharan Africa. He asserted that this historic decision ignited a wave of freedom throughout the African continent.
Traoré explained that his country, despite the political and economic challenges it faced, continues to implement comprehensive reforms led by President General Mamady Doumbouya, aimed at strengthening democracy, combating corruption, developing infrastructure, and improving the people’s standard of living. Speaking about bilateral relations, he affirmed the strength of the partnership with Kuwait, describing it as a “distinguished partner” in his country’s foreign policy. He praised the role of KFAED in financing vital projects in the fields of health, education, rural development and infrastructure. He also revealed the forthcoming inauguration of two major projects in the capital, Conakry, that will alleviate traffic congestion and promote urban development.
He expressed his deep gratitude to the political leadership of Kuwait, represented by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, while appreciating the efforts of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya in supporting and strengthening relations between the two countries. He also praised the exemplary behavior of the Guinean community in Kuwait and their commitment to adhere to the laws and regulations of the country. He emphasized that Independence Day is an opportunity to renew the resolve to build a strong nation and strengthen bridges of friendship with Kuwait and other countries, promising to continue working towards a brighter future for the Guinean people.
