More than 1,000 people joined the relaunch of Mixed Training Day at Lusail International Circuit, as runners, cyclists and families took to the track in a flexible, community-focused fitness event.
A fresh evening set the tone at Lusail International Circuit on Wednesday, as more than 1,000 people turned out for the return and relaunch of Mixed Training Day, now reintroduced with a broader, more community-focused format.
From 6pm, runners, cyclists, and wanderers checked in and made their way onto the 5.38-kilometre circuit, moving along the same track that hosts global events like Formula 1 and MotoGP.
For three hours, the space shifted into an open track experience, with people setting their own pace lap after lap.
Participants arrived throughout the evening, with entry open until 8:30pm, some coming prepared for full sessions, others joining for a few laps before heading off.
With no fixed distance, the format is flexible, whether for a quick walk or a longer training run.
All levels, all ages take to the track
Running clubs and cycling groups moved in rhythm, while others joined solo or tried the circuit for the first time.
Families walked side by side, kids cycled alongside parents, and participants of all ages made their way around the track at their own pace.
For many, it was less about distance and more about sharing the experience. The mix of ages stood out, from young children discovering the space to older participants taking it slow, stressing the idea that there is no age for this kind of moment.
From seeing it on TV to pushing on track
For many, the experience moved quickly from curiosity to something more personal once on the track. For some of the children brought by Education Above All, it was less about the activity and more about being given the chance to be there at all. “It’s so cool to be here,” one of them said.
“We’ve seen this place on TV, and now we actually get to be on it. It makes me want to try running more.”
For regular attendees, the impact showed up differently. Maria, a Filipina resident who cycles regularly in Doha, said being on the circuit added a new sense of drive to her routine.
“You always imagine racing on tracks like this, but being here yourself just makes you want to push harder,” she said.
A revamped experience beyond the track
As part of the relaunch, the event now extends beyond the circuit itself. Around the venue, participants could step off the track and into yoga sessions, recovery areas, and activity zones for different age groups, alongside food vendors spread across the site.
Mixed Training Day runs from 6pm to 9pm, with last entry at 8:30pm. The event is free, but advance registration is required, with each participant signing up individually and presenting a QR code on arrival.
Spots fill quickly, so signing up in advance is the best way to secure a place and avoid delays at check-in.
