The agreement is a significant milestone in the implementation of the country’s national strategy to turn the Alat Free Economic Zone into one of the main multimodal logistics centres in Eurasia. The new airport, promoted with the backing of the Government of Azerbaijan and the Silk Way group, will occupy a strategic position along the route of the so-called Middle Corridor, which will improve transport connectivity between Europe and Asia.
